The challenges of patient care and optimal patient outcomes seem to increase exponentially from year to year through a combination of increased demand and burgeoning information/treatment options relating to disease guidelines, disease management recommendations, introduction of new pharmacotherapeutic agents and devices. The clinical gastroenterologist needs to build on his/her education foundation regarding GI anatomy and disease states that lead to their board certification and re-certification while distilling the essence of new information and integrating it into their day-to-day practice. The requirement for recertification has posed an educational challenge for board certified gastroenterologists who are trying to balance the demands of their practice with their educational needs.
ACG’s Internet-Based Recertification/Physician Education Program, or “Education Universe,” is an on-line self-directed CME education program focused particularly on the information that practicing/clinical gastroenterologists need to remain current and abreast of the latest clinical knowledge and skills and to prepare themselves for the re-certification modules and examination administered by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Additionally, the program is designed for gastroenterologists and others with significant involvement in the diagnosis and treatment of GI conditions and disorders who are interested in an aggressive but scientifically sound approach to management of the treatment needs of GI patients with these conditions. The ACG Education Universe contains a wide variety of education materials including lectures, journal articles, self-assessment test questions and more on topics addressing all aspects of gastroenterology. The user is able to define the specific parameters for study to meet his or her needs and interests based on a wide variety of search parameters including subject matter, date and type of material.
After studying materials in the ACG’s Education Universe, participants should be able to use the self-directed learning format to:
Specific learning objectives, where appropriate, are included with materials in the site.
